Most if not all of people who come or want to come to Iran , are cultural or historical enthusiasts. Meaning that they like to go see historical , cultural, art and architecture sites, beside the fact that they get to see and learn a lot about what is going on deep in the mentality of Iranian people and under the skin of town. Granted there are lots that  you as cultural tourist can see in amazing beauty of Islamic-Persian architecture of Isfahan mosques , or Narrow windy allies of Yazd and its Zoroastrian temples, or remnants of ancient glory in Perseplis and tombs of Hafez and Sadie in Shiraz yet that doesn't mean you can not do anything else there.

If you are into swimming and diving , Kish island is great place to go . you got to remember that mixed swimming is not that much in yet. there are great mountain ranges with virgin and unspoiled mountains waiting to be explored .

there are great hikes that you can do in Alborz area, Masooleh, Darband, Tochal ..etc are good places to start with.

Skiing is fun and a good way to get away from the mood of city. Dizin and Shmshak close to Tehran are awesome places with international slopes and facilities. you can rent gears and use lifts...etc for just a few bucks a day. there are good lodge and hotels in Dizin area that you can enjoy too.

if you  want a good look of Tehran, you might want to check out the Tochal gondola that supposedly it is still the longest gondola in Asia. It would take you all the way to a very high elevation in Alborz , towering over Tehran. there are great restaurant and ski places for you if you want to relax and enjoy a day out of Tehran..

Iran is a big country  with a bout 1,6 million square kilometer it is as big as Alaska, or to put it more relevantly it is as big a few European countries to gather such as England, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium., However most of the land is desert or dry. yet that is not all that bad , since you can take great desert trips of few hours to few days across the desert and see what most can not even imagine.
